Comprehensive Physiologic Orthodontics

A misaligned set of jaws can lead to a variety of complications and consequences. Of course, the basis for orthodontic treatment is correcting improperly aligned jaws. Thanks to Comprehensive Physiologic Orthodontics by Dr. Salartash in Del Ray, Alexandria you can get the benefit of advancements in the field. Whereas traditional orthodontics is guided by teeth position in order to foster a more ideal jaw alignment, Comprehensive Physiologic Orthodontics is a a total approach that takes into account such diverse information as the way in which your head and neck muscles
relate to your jaw placement, as well as your posture. Even sleep apnea and other breathing disorders can play a part in the determination and treatment of your jaw alignment issues.

Instead of examining and analyzing just your jaw position in relation to your skull’s cranial base, this method of treatment considers the position of your jaw with respect to your head and your entire body. Certainly, when you seek out orthodontic care, you want to have straighter teeth. That is one of the goals of Comprehensive Physiologic Orthodontics, too. But in addition, you will be able to achieve a more comfortable and natural-feeling bite. You can expect to be asked about your family history, sleep habits, and many other things that are not always linked to good Orthodontic care. In the end, Comprehensive Physiologic

Orthodontics is about not just the cosmetic advantages, but also those related to your overall well-being. There is no doubt that your long term oral health is well served by this approach.

Braces for Kids and Adults

The goal of orthodontics is to correct a malocclusion – a bad bite. Teeth may be crowded or crooked or the upper and lower jaws may be out of alignment. Occasionally, even when teeth appear straight, the patient may have a bite which is not even and which may be causing further dental problems.

Orthodontics utilizes physics to slowly move teeth into the proper position. This is performed by using corrective appliances, including braces and retainers. Brackets are placed on the teeth using bonding technology. Arch wires are then threaded through these brackets . The tension and tightness of these wires determines the individual movement of each tooth. Orthodontics applies constant pressure on each tooth in a desired direction. By making adjustment to the pressure at follow up visits, our orthodontists control the slow movement of the teeth until the malocclusion is corrected. Generally speaking, orthodontic treatment can last from one to three years or longer depending on the patient’s age and severity of the malocclusion. Retainers are often worn to help ensure teeth remain in their new position after braces have been removed.

Invisalign ® is a form of orthodontic treatment that works to correct many different types of malocclusions through the use of a series of clear plastic trays called aligners. Invisalign® was developed to eliminate the use of unsightly metal brackets and wires and allow orthodontic treatment to occur almost “invisibly”. Our Doctor here at Dental Excellence in Del Ray, Alexandria can guide you through the whole process.

Healthy START- Ortho Tain

Healthy Start is a series of exclusively designed soft and comfortable oral appliances worn a few hours a day and/or during the night as your child sleeps. These appliances can help sleep disordered breathing and encourage nasal breathing (as curb mouth breathing).

A Healthy Start Provider can recognize these symptoms, find the main reasons for the symptoms, and provide a treatment plan, naturally. Because of dental arches that are narrow, not fully developed or located too far back, many young individuals have Sleep Disordered Breathing. If children are not treated at a young age, when they are still developing, these conditions will persist and can stop a child’s airway from growing and developing the right way.

Over the last two decades, clinical research established the correlatiion between specific increasingly common childhood health issues and the sole probable cause – Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB). Nine out of ten children suffer from SDB symptoms. Please read the list below to see if any of these symptoms are present in your child?

  • Bed Wetting
  • Difficulty in School
  • Mouth Breathing
  • Snoring
  • Restless Sleep
  • Nightmares
  • Delayed Growth
  • Chronic Allergies
  • Crowded Teeth
  • Overbite/Overjet
  • Dark Circles Under the Eyes
  • Swollen Adenoids/Tonsils
  • Aggressive Behavior

If these symptoms are left untreated in children, not much can be done to fix these symptoms as they grow into adults. If you have a child who suffers from any of the conditions listed above, it is important that you seek help.
